After living in the U.S. for 9 months

  2 weeks later this quarter will be done and I am going to leave the U.S. While I've lived in Riverside 9 months, I've learned life lessons from many people and experiences. 

  It wasn't easy to live here by myself at the first time. I especially remember that I cried at the dorm at the first day night because I came here alone and didn't have anything to contact with people. In the word, at that time, I didn't know what I'm going to do. Now, however, I think I'll miss here and friends. I'll never forget the memory I have had and I already feel sad. I want to write what I get and realize during the living in the U.S. 


 1. Speaking with Confidence

  Although I'm still afraid to lead sometimes, I'm pretty sure that I do better to speak english and announce presentation in front of people than before. When I was in my country, I hate someone ask me to lead some project or give an opinion, and it was more difficult when I speak English. While I've lived here, I realized that many people have confidence and they are very brave to give opinion. The culture of the U.S that say their thought directly in the free environment also affects me a lot. This factor is the most valuable what i got from here for me. I'll keep trying to be a good speaker with confidence.


2. Broaden the mind and thinking

  During 9 months, I've met various people from other countries, and traveled many places in the U.S. From these experience, I could rethink about my stereotypes and small mind, and realize that there have a lot of different world where I didn't know. For example, I might have had stereotypes of some countries, but I realized that all people are same, and don't judge person by the image of country that the media make.

From the traveling, I was happy to feel each city's mood and feel the people's lifestyle. Looking the famous places also excited, but I felt peace and free when i drive the long way to reach there with seeing the landscape. I thought the large land of the U.S. make people think and live freely.

I get the will to develop myself. I always hesitated to do new challenge and lived normally. However, I've met many people who are doing many expereinces to develop theirselves, and I got a mind to develop myself to be a nice person. When I met people who prepare their desire, I admired them and got many lessons. Life is short, and there have many outstanding people in the world. I thought I want to be an one of them.


3. Independent living and the value of home

In my country, I did independent living, yet I lived close with family and they supported me everything. In here, However, I have had to live by alone without family's help. It was not easy for me first time. I should pay rent, buy foods, do dishes, and clean the room without help. Shopping for the meals was the most stressful stuff. I should check the price, expiration date, and think about what I am going to eat. I was getting tired of these things. Sometimes, I got homesick because of mother's cook. I'll just stay at home for a while when I go back to home. It was good time to think about the value of home. Also, I'm not afraid to live by myself anymore. I feel I'm stronger than before becuase of this life experience. 



What I want to say is that 9 months in the U.S. was the most valuable experience and I'll never forget it which gave me many lessons. I'm happy to get not only the skill of English but also the valuable experiences. It really helped me to think about myself, and will keep helping me to develop myself. If there have many people who are hesitate to come here, I want to recommand strongly.

Society) A Witch Hunt on the internet

Nowadays,  Many celebrities are suffered from "witch hunt" in Korea.

Witch hunt means that many people push someone who have had a mistake into the corner. 

The origin of witch hunt is from the middle ages in Europe. When the whole country is plunged in confusion because of infectious disease and religion, authorities announced people to kill witches who caused confusion. Although there had no witches, authorities put the blame to many people because they wanted to win popularity using it. In other words, this word is used as situation that a group victimize someone to cover up bad things.

Nowadays, this word is used in the cyber society. At the first, witch hunt of celebrities is usually used to cover up politician's big issues. Therefore, if some politicians have had a big problem, they have issued big gossip of celebrities and tried to attract people's eyes to celebrities. That is, celebrities are victimized.  it is still using to cover up political problems.  

A modified witch hunt appear in modern cyber society. The suspects are netizens, who write their comment on the internet. this modified one is targeted not only celebrities but also citizen. If someone do a mistake or have a misunderstanding situation, netizens are starting to put them into the corner blindly. The problem is that some netizens don't know the reasons, but they do attack because of fun and mob. As a result, many people who are targeted suicide or suffered from them more and more.

Today, one celebrity in Korea suicide because of witch hunter. (she have already had a bipolar)  It is already many times happened, but netizens do not realized that they aroused this situation. They should realize that their comments for fun can make people die and give them hurts.

Please don't judge other people easily and talk about that. Don't judge person after listening to one side of the story and have a comment and make a mob.

Place) Skydiving

Hi, how are you everyone :)

As you know, today is mother's day.
Because I live in homestay, I bought flowers for my homestay mom. Also, I send flowers to my parents  and had a good time on the skype keke.
I miss them so much and always appriciate that they allow me to come here for my English and memories!! 
Let's say "Thank you" to mom today ;-D



Today, I'd like to introduce "Skydiving". 
I went skydiving this weekend, and it was one of the best moment in my life.
Most of people afraid  and hesitate to try it like i did. I have had even fear of height and sometimes have felt dizzy when I go high building. My friends wanted to do skydiving and ask me go together.
At first time, I hesitated to try skidiving because of fear of height and safety. However I decided to try it because nowadays I have wandered and thought a lot about my ego, so I wanted to do brave challenge.

I did skydiving at SKYDIVE ELSINORE.
It takes 1 hour from UCR  extension.

As you can see, there have one instructor and one camera man for first jumper. Most of people choose this "Tandem package" including video.

It is not that cheap price, but valuable!
And from second time, it cost cheaper and cheaper.

This is me when i was flying on the sky. The weather was nice and condition was also good!! 

Can you see how am i happy? I felt a sense of accomplishment. It haven't felt this feeling before.
After i did, I felt i can do everything whatever it is hard or not.
That's the why I recommand this challenge XD

1. Carpediem-Dead Poets Society

 I'd like to start blogging with explaining why i choose "Carpe Diem" for blog name. "Carpediem" which means "Enjoy the Present" as the latin languge is famous saying in "Dead Poets Society". Because of this saying, Many changes happen to the students who were just studying followed their parents' direction. These changes made a forceful impression on me; I have some episodes with this movies.



1. Plot (summury)

 John Keating (Williams) who is an unconventional educator come to The Welton Academy where is a conventional elite school. Keating introduces his students to poetry, and his free-thinking attitude and the liberating philosophies of the authors. This has a profound effect on his students who are confussing between parent's expect and their dream. The story process that students try to find their own interest and dream. 

2. Carpediem: Try looking and thinking from a different viewpoint. 

"Carpediem" means not just "have a fun today". If you watch this movie, you will get it what does it means. It inculdes the meaning "Keep thinking your dream, showing your interest, and do not hiding your preference". 

We are studying and living in a normal routine. More and more young people prefer stability rather than adventure, and seek a compromise under the parents expectation.  We all have own dream, but received standardized education for safe job. We don't have brave to live differently with others, and try to hide own personality. 

 



In this movie, Students are trying to find their egos, but it is not easy against the reality. However, they don't give up and keep trying it. Many yeong people just follow the routines and parents are happy when they follow this well. "Carpediem" gives them the brave to find egos.

 

3. Episodes

▶Circle "Dead Poets Society" in high school

 When I was in high school, there had a secret circle "Dead Poets Society" like a movie. I just heard the circle exist in the school, but I've never seen people who were in there. According to rumors, seniors picks members secretely once a year, and discuss their dreams. At that time, I really wanted to be selected from them, so I was staying whole time in the library when seniors have class in there. Unfortunately, I couldn't be selected, and still don't know who are members and their information.

 

▶ I met Robin Williams in NY~!!



When I was travelling Newyork, I met Robin Williams by accident on the broadway! Actually, I couldn't recognize him at first because he was older than I thought.LOL I asked him to take a picture together, and he gently did it. He looked tired, though. It was my first time see hollywood star. :)

 

 Many people who like me trying to be a Carpediem person, but it's really difficult to behave like that. By blogging with the name "Carpediem", I would try to post many good articles, hope many people are affected from these.
